From lakes and parks to breweries, malls, and Airbnbs, there are many places that not only allow dogs, but welcome them with open arms. Before going on a trip, it is important to plan and bring everything your dog needs. Here are seven tips to make walking your dog easier on you (and him).

There are many ways to spend time with your four-legged friend in Minnesota. Whether you want to go on holiday together or find local places to hang out, here’s a complete list of places your dog would love to see!
These places have outdoor patios, dog-friendly indoor areas, or both! I also found out that they often have water bowls and even dogs. Remember that breweries, cideries, distilleries and wineries are the most popular places to bring dogs, so it’s safe to expect to see lots of other dogs there. We didn’t take Ole to any breweries until he was a bit older and he didn’t want to go crazy wanting to play when he saw other dogs.
Some restaurants allow pets inside, others have outdoor beer gardens or terraces. Make sure you check out their website before you go and only bring well-behaved dogs.

In the land of 10,000 lakes, there are endless outdoor spaces where you can let your dog run free. And if your pooch doesn’t like the elements, there are daycare and doggy petting options.
There are so many great things to do in Minnesota with your dog. Whether it’s an outdoor adventure or relaxing indoors, it’s easy to find great ways to enjoy a day with your furry friend. Although my review focuses mostly on the Twin Cities and surrounding areas, know that it’s common for bars to allow dogs, and you can find a park or lake in almost every corner of Minnesota. If you go to any of these restaurants, hotels or bakeries, make sure you call ahead to make sure you understand their current rules and guidelines. That and mummy’s soft, chewy treats take you out of the pantry when I’m trick-or-treating, after bath time, and just being a good boy (all the time, if you ask me ). I live a very basic life, but I like it that way. It includes eating (my favorite), sleeping (my second favorite), and belly rubs (never enough.) 1. Let’s talk about travel. If you’re going out in the car with your dog or cat, it’s important to be prepared. Safety should always be number one. Like I said, I’m a simple guy, so if I can look out the window at all the beautiful places in Minnesota, I’m a happy guy. I’m also a fan of harnesses. No matter what you choose, unless you want to keep hair out of your clothes for months to come, you’ll also need to install a car seat cover. The bottom line? When Max or Tiger aren’t driving loose in the car, you start the trip off on the right foot.

2. Is your pet aware of the latest information on flea and tick prevention? Do you have a microchip? Here are the things you should check off your list before you go. Also, bring medical records in case of an emergency or if your pet-friendly resort requires vaccinations or medical history to stay with them. Establishing a safe and healthy adventure for everyone makes time even more enjoyable.
3. You might be surprised how many Minnesota resorts are pet friendly! When in doubt, drive around. There may be additional fees, weight restrictions, or rules about what kind of pets you can bring (not sure if Buddy the bearded dragon is welcome), but your best bet is to ask. My favorite is the Red Door Resort. It is open, their staff are friendly and attentive, and there are plenty of sticks to discover, leaves to hunt and fresh air to breathe. And my family is always happy when you are there. Red Door Resort has a few rules, but mostly fun!
O It is $15 per day to bring a pet to their destination, but additional cleaning fees may apply if pet policy guidelines are not followed. They want you to keep pets off the furniture; this includes beds, sofas, couches and chairs. If your pet is used to being on the furniture at home (raising a paw), they will want you to bring a sheet or blanket over the furniture. If you don’t, that’s where the extra cleaning fee comes in. It’s usually $50 for bedding, pillows, etc. it needs to be washed, but if the furniture needs to be replaced due to damage or stains, it can be more.
O Some accommodations at The Red Door Resort do not allow furry friends, so when you book, be sure to let them know you’re bringing your BFF!

O Pets are not allowed on or near the beach, but they are allowed in the harbour.
O While in the area, furry friends should be on a lead and not let out unless they are in their homes. The cleaners will not enter the same area if the dog is barking or undressed.
4. What to pack for your Minnesota visit: Fur babies or human babies, it’s always a struggle. Here’s a list to get you started:
· A first aid kit containing bandages, blunt scissors, tweezers, towel, surgical tape, non-stick dressing, alcohol wipe and an Elizabethan collar (also known as a cone of shame).

5. Have a plan! I usually like to stop every few hours to rest and stretch my legs for a few minutes. And of course I would like to have lunch and dinner and snacks if you are. Flexibility is key! The weather might not be what you expected, or the pit stop might make me smell a little more wood, but it’s all in this (and I’m IN A CAR!) and that’s it all that matters.
