One of England’s most beautiful landscapes, the Lake District is an outdoorsman’s paradise and offers dogs (and their owners) hundreds of opportunities for short walks, long walks and challenging hikes. Most of the routes between the villages are easy to navigate, and your pet will not feel tired during the journey.
Located just outside the market town of Keswick, Myrehouse Farm is a series of shepherd’s huts and glen pods overlooking the North Fell Hills. Little Man is one of several dog-friendly lodging options, offering a small enclosed garden and dozens of acres of grassy surroundings perfect for a walk outside or a brisk walk. The nearby village of Thircled also has pet friendly pubs.

It’s a “true walkers’ retreat”, with dozens of dog-friendly walks nearby, such as part of the 102-mile Cotswold Way, although visitors can also venture to nearby Stratford-upon-Avon or Chipping Campden. The cottages have comfortable, contemporary interiors and a wood-burning stove to warm guests; There is enough room for two dogs, meaning large groups can rent this unique lodge.
Brighton is one of the most dog-friendly cities in England. There are plenty of walks around the city, its beaches, pavilion gardens and parks such as the nearby South Downs, but Brighton is also home to dog-friendly businesses, including many pubs and cafes.
You can take your dog along the seafront on the Volk Electric Railway, or visit one of the city’s dog-focused events, such as the Dogtimber event at Saltdine Lido (where dogs and owners meet on weekend afternoons Seen at 9, you can swim during four daily sessions between September and October).

The Grand Brighton is one of the dog-friendly resorts in the city. Dogs can book into any room, and they’ll receive a welcome pack that includes a blanket, water bowl, and food. Although pets are not allowed in the main restaurant or on the terrace, they can join you for dinner by the fireplace in the hotel’s Victoria Lounge and Bar.
Yorkshire is another county ideal for holidays with the family dog, where the countryside and seaside towns offer owners plenty of ways to fill their days. Whitby is a town found on the coast, but is only a few miles from the border of the North York Moors National Park, so it’s a choice between the countryside or a run along the sand and sea.
The Agton Estate is nestled in the moorland and sits on 6,000 acres of somewhat unspoiled nature. With acres of land and miles of creek running through the property, it’s a great place to take a (well-behaved) dog, who can play with the owner’s own rescue dog (and it can even sample the organic dishes do).
Your four-legged friends can accompany you on a fishing or shooting trip, and the coast-to-coast trail runs through Agton. For dinner, you can use the BBQ or head to the estate’s own pub, the Horseshoe Hotel.

The Ayrshire countryside has acres of rolling hills and lots of woodland surrounding small villages, and Ayr is a popular Scottish beach perfect for a day trip (with the promise of walking the dog and the beach).
But if you really want to go wild with your dog, stay at the Mount Freedom cabin. Nestled among the hills and overlooking the cliffs of the Carrick coast, these three cabins offer a relaxing retreat with panoramic views across the water to the Isle of Arran. Dogs will enjoy the space to run around the nearby beaches or forests, and they can sit with you while you enjoy a meal at the nearby Pub Anchorage in Denver Village. They’ll appreciate the fireplace as much as you do when it’s time to settle in (although they probably won’t appreciate the hot tub or the views as much).
