Summer heat can be brutal on dogs, especially if your dog is older, has thick fur or a short muzzle. You should always have water on hand for your dogs and plan based on the weather forecast for that day. Another good practice is to have a plan for shelter in case of severe weather conditions. You should avoid keeping your dog in the car because cars can heat up quickly, especially on sunny days. Temperatures of 90 degrees or higher can be harmful to dogs, causing heat stroke or even death. When you run errands, leave your dog at home or have someone in or next to the car.

Happy 2017, friends! She here. Although I last spoke to you six weeks ago, after the trip to Macon, my New Year’s resolution is to write more blogs; oh wait, that’s mom’s new year’s resolution. I’m actually too lazy to make mine, so I’ll just borrow it and move on, okay?

I’m basically a road champ, so it wasn’t a big deal. I walked through these airports, going up and down escalators over and over, and I went through the TSA lines like a boss and got a lot of attention, just the way I like it.

Mom and Dad thought that since they were staying with friends in Fort Collins, I could follow them to Colorado. I don’t really know why this would matter, but apparently they say hotels don’t always appeal to my type, so I’m borrowing a page from Stephanie Tanner’s book. How rude!

But Fort Collins seemed to be a friend to the nation’s countryside, as I was let into a few different places, like Maxline Brewery and New Belgium.

Thanks dog, as it was cold outside! As a Maltese, I’m the proud owner of a full head of hair, but I’m not blessed with hair, so I can’t handle 20 degrees like a breed twice my impressive size could.

Or rather, dead, crunchy grass, as was the case when we went to Estes Park. I had these grand visions of the three feet of snow I’d be going through, and what I found was this?!?

Still, I guess (sigh) hanging out with Mom and Dad was okay no matter what the situation was. (Mom told me to say that, you know?) The snow can wait.

I learned one thing on that trip: I’m practically a professional skater.

We then headed to the town of Estes Park to thaw out our paws, where the canine greeter at Elkins Distilling Co greeted me with a very warm hug.

I matched the decor! Apparently I was also born to be a distiller’s hound. Ollie was friendly and I liked him (which is more than I can say for most types I encounter). He even shared his whiskey with me.

In fact, I liked him so much that when he pulled a trick from his own playbook (the old high-five, which always impresses men), I didn’t even try to show him. How about a little humility?
