Best Dog Friendly Weekend Getaways California

Best Dog Friendly Weekend Getaways California – Palm Springs, California is about 100 miles east of Los Angeles in the Coachella Valley region of the Sonoran Desert. As a popular tourist destination for many years, Palm Springs is known for its natural hot springs, hotels, restaurants, golf courses, sunny weather, and – of course – nature.

Downtown Palm Springs is constantly evolving with new shops, restaurants, hotels and neighborhoods, such as the development of the North End to the Uptown Design District. The annual Coachella and Stagecoach festivals draw attention to desert cities, and the Palm Springs International Film Festival in January attracts top names and growing audiences.

“Greater Palm Springs” includes eight cities in addition to Palm Springs: Desert Hot Springs, Cathedral City, Rancho Mirage, Palm Desert, Indian Wells, La Quinta, Indio and Coachella. Tourism is a major contributor to the local economy. I recommend staying in Palm Springs and exploring other cities by car. Palm Desert has great outdoor shopping and is great for Indio/Coachella photos or if you’re attending a party (without the dog).

These Cities Have More Vacation Homes That Allow Pets Than Any Others In The U.s.

We have visited many dog friendly places, and when I say Palm Springs is the most dog friendly city we have visited – I mean it! It’s hard to explain, but there was a sense of welcome everywhere we went with Ruby and we hope that will be reflected in this comprehensive guide.

The weather in Palm Springs is good all year round, but there are certain times that are considered best to visit in the winter and spring. Palm Springs feels special in the winter months, which are November – January, because the rest of the country faces cold temperatures and snow, Palm Springs enjoys the sun and temperatures of 65-75 degrees.

When traveling to Palm Springs with your dog, I don’t recommend going there after March. Unless your only plan is to be in the pool for the duration of your visit. Summer temperatures are around 100℉ and can reach 115℉, with less than 10% humidity.

The real estate in Palm Springs and the surrounding desert area is a whole world and one of my favorite things about visiting this city. I’m a big fan of mid-century modern architecture and desert luxury, so I’d be in heaven to find hotels and rentals around this area.

Two Most Scenic Dog Friendly Road Trips In Northern California

If you want to stay in downtown Palm Springs, Palm Canyon Dr. and Indian Canyon Dr. There are good dog friendly accommodation options within walking distance of shops and restaurants. Check out ARRIVE Palm Springs, Kimpton Rowan Palm Springs, The Colony Palms Hotel & Bungalows, and The Saguaro Palm Springs.

If you want to rent a house – we’re always a fan of a kitchen that leads directly to the outdoors – head over to AirBnB or VRBO and turn on the pet view. I have saved a few rentals on my wish list. The photo below was taken when we were at Mesa Tavira in Joshua Tree over the weekend. You can see our full house tour on Instagram.

Palm Springs has always been a dog-friendly city and with 354 days of sunshine a year there are plenty of things that will welcome your dog with open arms.

Boozehounds Palm Springs was started by three friends for one simple reason…they love dogs and dreamed of a place where people could bring their kids, have a cocktail or great meal, and socialize in style. This is the most popular restaurant we have been to for two reasons: 1) The dog food is excellent and offers new food options that cater to common food allergies, and 2) the dog eating in the atrium is perfect. We loved having lunch here when we visited in the winter months and you can see our visit on Instagram.

Manteca Kids Friendly Resort

4 Paws Coffee Co., Ltd. There are other dog friendly places in Palm Springs that you should check out. We were welcomed with open arms as soon as we walked in the door, the restaurant was decorated with dog treats and accessories. We enjoyed cookies and coffee with Rue while she spoiled herself with a puppy cup. Coffee purchases support their efforts to give back to local shelters and expand their mission of bringing coffee, food and connection to the Palm Springs community.

Murton Botanical Gardens is a private botanical garden created to share the beauty and diversity of desert plants with everyone. Unique plants, plants and cacti come from all over the world and vary in size from small to large. They are home to the world’s first cactirium – my favorite part of the park – and they allow dogs to roam the entire park.

The parking lot is located at the corner of the S Palm Canyon Dr entrance. Entry fee is $5/person and dogs are free. This small park can be explored within 30 minutes of a leisurely walk home. We spent a little time here because I was busy taking pictures of cacti. If you go during the week you should be lucky for less people.

Unique to Southern California is the entire field of wind turbines. They have an official trip to Palm Springs to see them up close, but I’m not sure if they allow dogs. We chose to see each other.

The 10 Best Pet Friendly Hotels In San Diego 2024

To see the photo below, take I-10 to Indian Canyon Drive and Garnett. If you are driving north on Indian Canyon, turn left on Garnett and go about 1/4 mile and you will find several places to park. There is no traffic in this area, so before you close the highway, it is better to stop where you want to shoot.

I recommend that you go at sunset. The desert really does offer sunsets with cotton candy skies, but the sun sets quickly in the mountains so make sure you arrive before the sun goes down. There is a fence around the turbine, but in the shadow of the area and behind the forest hill, it is not really noticeable. You just have to accept it.

Although there are limitations to visiting Joshua Tree National Park with the best fur, there are still fun dog activities that allow you to experience different parts of the park while visiting together with your dog. We’ve visited Ruby many times and collected the best Joshua Tree plans for a half-hour or full-day visit to the park.

This sprawling community is a treasure trove of mid-century modern architecture enthusiasts. Almost all of Indian Canyon’s homes are built in nineteenth-century fashion with large glass windows, large balconies and pool access. Therefore, the mountain has a rich architectural history and uninterrupted views.

Top Pet Friendly Vacation Destinations For This Fall

You’ve probably seen some of these homes on Instagram with their beautiful garden designs and colorful doors. The best way to enjoy these buildings is to park and walk the streets. I really like houses in South Yosemite and South Camino Real.

The dog-loving spirit is very much alive in the downtown Palm Springs area. It is the center of the city full of shops, restaurants, and unique museums. We had so many people come to us and share how they treat Ruby and all the shop owners were immediately drawn to Ruby giving their pets, water and food. If you follow us on social networks, you know that Ruby has a case of alien danger, but soon she gave an animal.

There is a lot to do in downtown and the main ones are Palm Canyon Drive and Indian Canyon Drive. I suggest that you record and come up with what seems interesting. South of Palm Canyon is a bit kitschy and the northern part is more modern with recent revitalization like the Uptown Design District.

Some of the stores that were on my list to check out: Ibis boutique for women, Just Fabulous for Palm Springs souvenirs, Peepas, Out West Trading Co, Covet for sustainable jewelry, and Destination PSP. The PSP area had the best of mid-century home decor.

In addition to shopping and dining around downtown, you can also check out unique art exhibits scattered throughout the area, such as the larger-than-life PS ❤️ statue and Marilyn Monroe pictured above. If you have time, you can use this guide to find them all.

As you can already tell, Palm Springs has a thriving art scene, and in addition to large and complex sculptures, there are also many murals throughout the city. My favorite is Pam’s greeting
