There are many places where you can meet these requirements. In fact, they narrowed the list down to just eight spots.
So without further ado, here are the places I think you can get a short break from Singapore:
When talking about the tourist attractions of the Riau Islands, most people definitely think of the islands of Batam and Bintan. However, if you want a unique vacation that isn’t too crowded and doesn’t feel like Singapore, you should consider Telunas Private Island.
Telunas is a small resort located on a small private island in Sugi Island. In fact, it is 50 kilometers south of Singapore, but when you are here, you will forget that Singapore even exists. On this small island, there are only 15 overwater villas on the beach and 5 villas for couples on the mountains. However, it is still so close to the main island that you will never run out of things to do!

How to get to Telunas from Singapore: Take a ferry from Harbor Front to Sekupang and then take a local ferry from Sekupang to Telunas Private Island.

Joyo is a small private island near Binta Island in Indonesia. The accommodation at Joyo is designed for communal use, so it is advisable to go in groups. In fact, you can book the whole island! Joyo Island can accommodate up to 45 people at a time. I went to Joyo as part of a group of about 20 people and we had a great time. We have the island to ourselves.

Where to stay in Joyo: Since Joyo is a small island, there are no accommodation options other than Joyo resorts.

Desaru has become a popular beach resort in Malaysia easily accessible from Singapore. In the year I visited Desaru in 2010 and realized it was a destination then. However, in the year In 2019, the city welcomed new news with the opening of four new resorts on Desaru Beach, giving the city a new attraction.

When I was in my 20s, I often went to Rawa with my friends. The first time I went to Rawa, I couldn’t believe how soft and white the sand was and how clear and turquoise the water around the island was. It’s like I live in a postcard! In total, I have been to Rawa three times since last ten years.
Where to stay in Rawa Island: There are two resorts – Rawa Island Resort and Alang Rawa. Rawa Island Resort is more suitable for families or couples looking for better accommodation, while Alang is more economical and better for young people.

Malacca is a popular destination from Singapore as it is located near the Singapore-Malaysia border. You can even do this as a day trip as it is so close to Singapore. We took the bus in the morning and back in the evening, although I thought it was too fast.

Tioman is especially popular as a diver for beginners to get their certification. The water around Tioman tends to be clear with good visibility, and there are many beginner-friendly dive sites. I personally did my Open Water and Advanced PADI certifications in Tioman, and have since returned to the island twice to dive in my spare time. If you are not a diver – there are many activities you can do in Tioman such as snorkeling and cycling around the island.
