We only spent one night in Taupo on this trip and again stayed at the Ascot Motor Inn, where we have always been very comfortable. This stay was exactly what we expected. We had a studio room on the upper level, overlooking the lake.
Both rooms were nice and clean, kitchen and TV in living room and bedroom. The two bedroom unit had a small patio with a table and chairs for good weather – it was a little chilly sitting outside while we were there.

We were traveling with our dog so this was a great find – a pet friendly motel. We informed them in advance that our dog would be with us and they were able to send us their one-pager which has the appropriate rules for someone living with a dog. It was only $20 more for the dog staying with us. Our dog sleeps in a crate, so the room they gave us, which had a kitchenette, was perfect.
The location of the motel is excellent, right on the shore of the lake, so evening and morning walks are nice. The bed was comfortable, we slept very well and the room was very clean.
The owner/manager was very friendly and accommodating. We will definitely try to stay here next time we pass through Taupo.

We stayed as it was the last night of a 3 week trip to NZ. What a perfect end to the holiday.
Since we are traveling with a dog, there is a short staging area in the back of the unit that is easily accessed through the back door of the unit.
We had a pleasant stay at this well maintained pet friendly motel. Di and Tony were great hosts, helping us find a great place to eat just 450 meters away! I could walk, no 🙂
