It’s a popular tourist destination, so you’re bound to meet other people as you explore. The road is open all year round, although the road is not plowed in winter, and is good for excursions at any time. During our hike, we met a lot of dogs, sometimes some of them came off the leash.
There is a $10 entrance fee at Fallen Leaf Lake Campground to access the trails. The officer will give you a tag to hang on your dashboard and then you will turn around and take the road to the left of the day parking entrance. I recommend using AllTrails while hiking to stay on track, we took a bit of a detour and ended up in a very unmarked area that opened up the forest.
