The period from early November to late March is classed as peak season on Melbourne beaches. Many dog-friendly beaches have restrictions during this time and it is wise to check with the local council in the area to avoid incurring a hefty fine.
Under the Council’s Local Community Facilities Act, dog owners must carry bags or harnesses in addition to the existing requirement to bring their dogs. The sanction is an immediate fine.
