For a great hiking option, drive two miles up the road to the Cape Perpetua Scenic Area. Pick up a $5 pass or pick up your Northwest Wilderness and hike 6.5 miles of pet-friendly trails to the Cape Perpetua Rock Refuge. Built in the 1930s, it sits 800 feet above the rushing water. Return to the Visitor Center and see the spectacular displays at Devil’s Churn, Thor’s Well, and the Spouting Horn at Cook’s Chasm while overlooking the Pacific Ocean. For a shorter hike, try Route 804, which connects seven miles of beach between Yachats and Waldport.

Climb the Cape Kiwanda Sand Dunes and finish strong. The view of the village and the beach is definitely worth it. Run your dog downhill for real thrills!
Quench your hunger and thirst at Pelican Brewing, one of Oregon’s most popular breweries. Here you can sit outside with your children and enjoy the view of Haystack Rock and the Pacific Ocean. Go during off-peak hours as the wait for a table can be very long during the summer. If you like Mexican food, don’t miss Ben & Jeff’s, where you can enjoy tacos and burritos on the patio or on the beach.
Pacific City has several camping options, including Bob Straub State Park and Cape Kiwanda Natural Area. Otherwise, choose the affordable Surf & Sand Inn, located within walking distance of the beach, restaurants and Nestuca River.
