We travel full time and have been traveling for 7 years. Our plans for 2023 will take us to Europe to try camping in different countries.

Rachel Johnson and her husband Nate founded 2 Travel Dogs in 2011. He writes a daily dog blog featuring the RV adventures of rescue dogs Peanut Butter Brickell and Digby Pancake as they travel across America to rescue animals. With over a million followers on social media, they use their platforms to inspire others to adopt their pets and live their best lives together while traveling.
Both mountain and ocean views can be found when you drive northeast in your RV! Big cities like New York, Boston and Philadelphia also offer a slice of history and culture. This area has it all, but like every area we visited, Brickell and Digby to the north east were the most popular destinations for dog caravans.
Eleven states make up the northeastern region of the United States, including Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Massachusetts, Maryland, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, and Vermont. The northeast has a mixed climate, with very cold winters. But visiting the area in the summer makes for great hiking, and the fall foliage colors will encourage you to get outside with your dogs.
Our favorite part of the trips is the food, and in this section it’s everything from Boston Baked Beans, Wild Blueberries, Stew, Chowder, Bread and Apples! The favorites were our dogs Brickell and Digby! We would share a blueberry pie in Maine!
Pet Friendly Paradises In Asia,
Connecticut has more than 19 acres along the Mystic River. Mystic Seaport is the largest maritime museum in the United States. But it really is a park! Take your dog for a walk and see the beautiful old boats and learn about the maritime lifestyle that was common in this part of New England. Pets must be on a leash and are welcome in all outdoor areas. Pets can also join you on riverside cruises, as long as the size of the tour allows a dog on the boat! Choose RV resorts in the area that offer water views and dogs are welcome!
Delaware is the second largest state in the country, but it also offers five beautiful state parks for camping! We enjoyed Kilns Pond State Park near Felton, Delaware. Killens Pond is a great place to go kayaking, canoeing, boating or rowing and hanging out on the pond with your dog! Killens Pond State Park Campground features 59 single-family campsites with dog-friendly electric and water hookups.
You may have heard of the famous Bar Harbor, Maine. But have you heard of Bass Harbor? We can’t stop talking about this destination years after our trip. Bass Harbor, Maine, is on the “back” side of Mount Desert Island, a large part of Acadia National Park. It is located in the southwest of the island. Our favorite dog friendly hike was from Bass Harbor Campground to Bass Harbor Head Light! It is located in the park a short distance southeast of the port. It is one of the most recognizable and recognizable lighthouses in the United States. We still remember the sound of the water, the shops and the birds. We felt very relaxed. After a day of picking wild blueberries and eating pie, this trip was perfect. Don’t forget that Acadia National Park has over 100 miles of trails open to dogs!
Cape Cod in Massachusetts is a real experience. Cape Cod is a hook-shaped peninsula in the US state of Massachusetts. It’s a popular summer destination, but visiting in the off-season is a great way to beat the crowds. Small towns, lighthouses, bay and ocean pools and beaches are your and your dog’s playground. We also enjoyed visiting Hyannis and seeing the ferries. We decided to take the dog-friendly ferry for ice cream! Not all dogs have sea legs! Camping in your trailer on Cape Cod gives you the perfect home base for many destinations in Massachusetts. You will have rural or more expensive tourist options.
Dog Friendly Rv Destinations In The Northeast
Located in the middle of the Chesapeake Bay, the only way to get to this island is by boat. Smith Island is about 12 miles off the coast of Crisfield, Maryland. Go to Crisfield City Pier and hop on one of the passenger ferries that operate here. On this 45 minute ride, your dog will enjoy the wind in his fur! However, Berkle was not too happy with the trip. Every dog is different. Tell your dog that this island was first mapped by Captain John Smith in 1608! People have lived there for over 200 years, many speak the original dialect. Take the time to walk around the streets around the island and see the simple way of life. Don’t forget to taste the official state cake of Maryland, Smith Island Cake. Not many people or dogs can say they’ve been here. It’s truly an adventure you won’t forget.
The White Mountain National Forest in eastern New Hampshire ranges from deciduous hardwood forests to large alpine peaks. Experience beautiful scenery, clear mountain lakes and streams, wildlife, and year-round outdoor recreation opportunities with your dog! The White Mountain National Forest offers thousands of trails, forests, rivers and lakes for dogs to play. Some pet-friendly attractions require dogs to be on a leash. RV campgrounds and full service sites and river or mountain views, the White Mountains offer campers an amazing variety!
Many people don’t think of country and ranching when they think of New Jersey. But Sussex, New Jersey will make you see this country in a different way! Pleasant Acres Campground Nestled in the rural hills of Northwest New Jersey, Pleasant Acres Farm offers guests the opportunity to camp in a farm-like setting! The fairs and farm animal movements are just the beginning. Our dogs loved watching the farm animals and wading in the creek. Plus, High Point State Park has a great dog-friendly hike just down the road. The park is in northern New Jersey and has the highest elevation in the state. You can see New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania from above! If the country life tires you, the Big Apple is just a short drive away. The best of both worlds on your cowboy boots.
Warwick, New York is known for its wineries, farming community and its annual Applefest in October. Warwick is a great dog-friendly destination for those who want to get lost in nature. We went white and disc apple picking at a beautiful farm stand and then visited dog friendly wineries and breweries! What could be better than that?
Best Dog Friendly Winter Vacations
Have you ever heard of Kanazawa Bridge? Once you see him and walk on the glass floor, you will never forget him. Our dogs are definitely not forgotten! Kinzoa Bridge State Park is a 339-acre (137 ha) state park in Pennsylvania near Jewett Mountain. Kinzoa Bridge State Park has been named one of Pennsylvania’s “25 Must-See Parks” by the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) and its Bureau of Parks.
At the time of its construction in 1882, the Canzoa Bridge was the tallest railroad bridge in the world at 301 feet. The site, which is still part of the original elevated railway, is an interesting place to visit. Visitors and their dogs can walk 600 feet out to the remaining support towers, peeking out to the partially covered dock at the end of the Mile Pier trail in Canzoa Channel.
Our time in Rhode Island was short but memorable. Walk back in time with your dog at the Cliff Walk in Newport, Rhode Island. The Cliff Walk along the East Shore of Newport, RI is world-renowned as a public access hike that combines the natural beauty of Newport’s coastline with the architectural history of Newport’s Gilded Age. A 3.5-mile descent, the trail offers panoramic views of the horizon, with the Atlantic Ocean crashing against rugged cliffs and the surf boiling over the rocks below. Dogs are allowed on a leash.
