Walking distance from downtown Savannah’s historic district is 90/100. Once you park your car, you and your pup can explore most of what the city has to offer. From commercial hotels to historic hotels, Savannah offers pet-friendly accommodations at Airbnb apartments and houses. Most hotels and motels require dogs to be neutered if they allow them to be left alone in their rooms. You have more flexibility when renting a single-family home or apartment, but read Airbnb’s specific housing policies carefully.
I love staying in the area that borders Colonial Park Cemetery. That’s because you’re centrally located between the river bordering the historic district to the north and Forsyth Park bordering it to the south. My favorite pet friendly restaurants are just a few blocks down the Bull Street corridor and close to the shopping on Bruton Street. Perry Lane Hotel (from $314 per night) offers a boutique hotel experience with pet-friendly accommodations, on-site dining options, and a rooftop pool. The long-running DeSoto Savannah (rates start at $209 per night) is also nearby and offers slightly cheaper lodging and nightly rates. If you want to stay closer to River Street nightlife, we recommend the historic East Bay Inn (rates start at $239 per night). We have stayed here several times over the years and it is the perfect combination of an inn and historic B&B. The Thunderbird Inn (from $121 per night) is located on the west side of the historic district and offers budget-friendly accommodations that won’t overwhelm your four-legged friends. Technically, you’re still in the historic district. You’re looking at longer travel times to most attractions.
We have stayed in pet friendly Airbnbs for the past few years. We love Airbnb’s maps feature and ‘pet-friendly’ filter, which guides us to our favorite places and accommodations. Most Airbnbs charge additional pet fees and cleaning fees on top of the nightly rate. Be prepared for the total cost to be slightly higher than the original estimate. In our experience, pet fees are similar to what you would pay to adopt a dog from your home (about $50 per pet per night), so one option shouldn’t be cheaper than the other. When you move, you can even get homemade Oliver Bentley cookies as a parting gift. Like our dogs, we loved this tour and highly recommend it. They have definitely made progress!
Old Savannah Tours offers trolley tours of the historic district and welcomes small dogs that can sit on a person’s lap during the tour. Savannah Stroller Tours welcomes dogs on private stroller tours and can accommodate small dogs on shared tours. If you’d like to visit Bonaventure Cemetery with your dog, book a tour with Savannah Cruisers, which tours the cemetery in a golf cart. Most beaches on Tybee Island do not allow dogs, but Captain Derek’s Dolphin Adventures takes them out on the water for tranquil views and wildlife spotting.

We visited Collins Quarters with the dogs and the staff brought out water bowls for the dogs and stopped to give us lots of pet treats.
