Richmond is known as ‘The Gateway to the Dales’ and is recognized as one of Britain’s best market towns, with streets steeped in history. Explore the 11th century castle, beautiful historic buildings, Richmond Falls and the ruins of Easby Abbey. There is a great walking tour to follow in the footsteps of Richmond’s legendary lost Drummer Boy.
After a walk around the castle walls, walk along the river and past the famous Richmond Castle to recharge and reward yourself in one of our favorite local pubs. The Holly Hill Inn serves a range of ales and wines as well as the Yorkshire tipple Black Sheep Ale, which is not to be missed on your visit to Yorkshire.
Located in the village of Langthwaite in Arkengarthdale, the CB Inn (or the Charles Bathurst Inn, to give it its full name) is always a welcome sight after a long day exploring the spectacular Fremington Edge ridge well over Swaledale and Arkengarthdale in front. fall down and the vibrant town of Reeth. The return journey is a gentle path down the valley, following the little Arkle Beck much of the way. Alternatively, start at Reeth and find the CB Inn for lunch! The pub offers outdoor seating in the most beautiful views as well as cozy log fires to enjoy the cooler months on a Sunday lunch.
A route of around 7.5 miles takes you along the banks of the River Cover to visit the beautiful ruins of Jervaulx Abbey, often covered in rows of wildflowers (and next to a large tea room!), and up to High Jervaulx Farm, where you can Brymor Eis try it on the field. The return route is through fields and woods to return to East Witton to enjoy a stop at the Blue Lion, which is a great place for a drink or to try something from the large (and upmarket) menu. The restaurant is a very formal affair, really for fine dining rather than coming in at the end of a round, but the tables at the front are perfect for watching the t -world passing by and there is a grassy beer garden at the back meaning it is also a restaurant. beautiful place to enjoy the sun.

Reeth is a pretty village in the heart of Swaledale, with lots of beautiful countryside to explore on this circular walk. You have three options, The Black Bull, The Buck, and The Kings Arms are worth a visit, with local ales and cozy pubs overlooking the town green.
Start at the village green in Reeth and take a path called Quaker Flags. It takes you to the historic Quaker Foundation building, and takes in a wonderful view of the green fields as you descend to the meadows of the valley below. Over a series of stones and gates, enter the village of Healaugh. Follow the path along the River Swale to the Reeth Swing Bridge and head back into town for a well-earned pint.
An important natural landmark, Aysgarth Falls is also home to one of the cheapest pubs in the area. 2.2 kilometers long, you can start this 60-90 minute walk in the beautiful flower covered Freeholders Wood before passing Bolton Castle, where the views over Lower Wensleydale are impressive. Come to Saint Joseph’s Wood where the sound of the rushing water will draw you through the trees and out to the Lower Falls. It’s a great place to stop before running upriver towards the Middle Force lookout and the bridge that overlooks Eas Ard, the most famous and impressive part of Aysgarth Falls. You will end up in the National Park Center with a selection of pubs.
Head north to the Wheatsheaf Inn, a country cottage-style watering hole where you can enjoy real ales and pub classics. Or head south to visit the Aysgarth Falls Hotel, a very traditional pub where beers and local produce are the norm.
