That I placed my alpha signs all over Europe. Since I began my nomadic journey, I returned to Europe the following year and lived in strict lockdown in Catalonia during the pandemic. Before my first international flight to Paris in 2016, there were very few dog travel blogs and travel influencers. Nowadays, international dog travel seems to have exploded and taking your dog to Europe is no longer a novelty. For Americans like me and my parents, returning to Europe is easy after completing the initial formalities.

However, in countries with strict dog import requirements, such as Singapore, a dog holiday in Europe is much more complicated and requires painstaking planning. Therefore, the journey to and from Singapore is as long as the journey

, these two things are inseparable! Helen loves it when Coco looks lovingly into her beloved puppy eyes, which warms her heart muscles. π
The trial before Helena’s departure lasted about four months. As you can imagine, there is a lot of paperwork to fill out and medical requirements to meet in both Europe and Singapore. Helen had to get Coco used to her carrier before the long-haul flight, which meant time had to be allocated for carrier training. Luckily, Coco was potty trained at a young age, so she can usually pee and pee as needed. So she had no problems on the plane when she had a bowel movement before going to the plane toilet.
Your Guide To Dog Friendly Travels
Due to stringent quarantine controls such as rabies vaccinations, rabies serology tests, and all documentation, they spent many sleepless nights trying to read the quarantine conditions. This was the most important step because they didn’t want to risk Coco being quarantined in a foreign country and/or on the way home to Singapore. Many countries require rabies vaccinations, annual basic vaccinations, etc. before arrival. Therefore, if you plan to take your dog abroad, make sure that all documentation is completed correctly.
The most difficult step for Helen was scheduling and analyzing the documents required for both overseas and Singapore.
After all, the last thing she wants is for Coco to be quarantined upon her return to Singapore (or unable to enter a foreign country upon arrival) due to non-compliance.
Another challenge is circumstances beyond your control, for example: you cannot predict or control your dog’s behavior or whether he or she feels uncomfortable with increased air pressure or constant engine noise with acute hearing. In addition, dogs are required to behave well on the plane (no barking or whining) and stay in the carrier during the flight. What’s more, you won’t know if your front, back or side neighbors are dog-sensitive. They may give you a hard time. π

Additionally, Helen and her husband had to look for pet-friendly accommodation in Europe, as not all hotels are dog-friendly. Fortunately, they discovered that around 70% of European hotels are dog-friendly, which makes things easier.
You should consider planning Coco’s meals ahead of time as she is on a raw or home cooked diet. However, this means that they have to look for accommodation with a small kitchenette where they can store meals in the hotel refrigerator.
First, you need to have your dog microchipped. Microchip implantation can be performed at any accredited veterinarian for a nominal fee. A microchip is a unique, permanent identifier that permanently links your name and contact information to your dog.
After microchipping your dog, the next step is to vaccinate it against rabies. The rabies vaccine should be administered AFTER the microchip is implanted, NOT before. The minimum vaccination period is at least 21 days BEFORE the dog arrives in the EU. Your dog must be at least 12 weeks old (although there are some exceptions for bringing young dogs).

As Singapore is on the list of countries, your dog will not be subject to a blood test for rabies antibodies before entering the EU.
Often, an accredited veterinarian can issue a veterinary health certificate at the practice – be sure to ask. If not, print the certificate and take it to your vet for completion. Before visiting the vet, remember to print out the appropriate health certificate, depending on the country of origin. Also check whether it is certified for non-commercial transport of animals.
When traveling from a non-EU country such as Singapore, your dog must have an EU Animal Health Certificate issued by an official veterinarian in the country of departure no later than 10 days before your dog arrives in the EU.
The certificate is valid for travel between EU countries for 4 months or until the rabies vaccination expires, whichever comes first.

Additionally, you must complete and attach a written declaration to the EU Animal Health Certificate stating that the move is non-commercial. This declaration is also required if the animal is traveling under the care of a person authorized by you. In this case, the pet must be reunited with you within 5 days of the move.
If you are traveling with your dog to Finland, Ireland, Malta, Norway or Northern Ireland, you must receive treatment for Echinococcus tapeworm 24-120 hours before departure. All details of the treatment must be entered in the pet’s passport or EU health certificate.
Helen and her husband are relieved and proud that Koko has handled the summer well. Unlike some crying babies and naughty children, she didn’t make any noise or disturb other passengers. In fact, some passengers didn’t even realize Coco was on the plane until it was time to board!
Because Coco is not a service dog or an emotional support animal (ESA), she had to stay in an animal carrier during the 13-hour flight to Germany, which she did except when she was taken to the bathroom to urinate. He is usually a retriever, which means he likes to lie down, daydream, and doesn’t do much around the house (apart from watching Helena at work). She is a low energy dog ββand Helen believes that these characteristics make it easier for her to endure long flights. If your dog is hyperactive, territorial or easily irritated, you may want to consider taking him abroad.
Mile Radius: Time To Let The Dogs Out
Koko came to Frankfurt with her family, rented an off-road vehicle and drove around Germany, France, Switzerland, Austria and Liechtenstein. A total of 5 countries in almost 3 weeks!
Koko’s most memorable moment in Europe took place at Jungfraujoch (Switzerland), the highest railway station on the continent at 3,454 meters above sea level. The observatory is located at an altitude of 3,571 meters, which is very high for a railway station. Jungfraujoh (or “Top of Europe”) earned its nickname even though it is not the highest peak in Europe. Opened in 1912, the train station is located directly beneath the Sphinx Observatory and is connected to the Top of Europe building.
The experience of riding the cable car and then transferring to the train was a huge ARF with a spectacular view. The ladies said it was truly a once in a lifetime experience! Coco also enjoyed it as it was her first time in the snow. Fortunately, Helen brought Koka shoes so that her feet wouldn’t freeze. It was summer, so they didn’t bring enough warm clothes for her because they didn’t expect it to be so cold. With all three skimpy tops and a scarf, Helen Coco rocked the snowy mountains! :/
Another memorable moment took place in Zurich when Coco and her
